Friendship Groups
We have many different types of Friendship Groups to offer. Friendship groups are also called social skills groups. These groups are for kids in kindergarten, grade school, middle school, high school and also young adults who might difficulties with social skills. Friendship Groups are broken into two age groups: approximately 5-7 years old and 8-11 years old. Many children who have joined our groups have various struggles with anxiety, ADHD, high functioning autism and more.
Each group will be limited to 6 children and will involve role play and group activities covering but not limited to the following topics:
-
Nonverbal communication (eye contact, reading facial expressions, personal space)
-
Role playing for positive social interaction (approaching children socially, communication/give and take of social interactions, social problem solving)
-
Labeling emotions and coping with negative feelings (such as anger management, impulsivity) and self esteem building
-
Assertiveness/standing up to bullies, and levels of friendship.
Social skills groups work on but are not limited to: greeting new friends, joining a group, cooperative play, small group play, give and take in social situations, emotional identification, empathy, conflict resolution, turn taking, assertiveness with friends, labeling and expression of feelings, We also work on various techniques for relaxation/self regulation, impulse control, emotional control and self-regulation, attention/concentration, frustration tolerance/patience, listening skills.
